anyone experienced with enterprise/commercial WLAN installation?

We have Symbol AP's at work throughout the premises (industrial FCOJ storage and processing plant, both bulk and drums), encased in Rital weatherproof housings, with heavy external antenna's. Coverage's pretty good and uniform, even in the drum storage where the signal probably bounces on and off a million times and temperatures are around -16?C. Works pretty flawlessly, no problems so far. We use it with Symbol barcode scanners (Windows CE terminals) that connect through the wireless with JDEdwards for workorders and stuff like that. Ap's are both in production rooms and storage rooms, with v -
Yea man, that whole Pee 4 thing was boring... glad it's about to be burried...? ;D

Yohah will kick ass ! And its successor will kick even more ass. So looking forward to this, to replace my boxen :)

So ya think they'll throw in a nuclear power plant for free, to power the damn thing ?? ;D Impressive nonetheless...

Those live cd's are usually pretty good because they recognize a lot of hardware out of the box, but there's always gonna be something that isn't recognized. Like wifi cards and stuff. i've had pretty good luck with knoppix actually...

Tried it yesterday on a lappy but apparently the cd was scratched. :/ I've heard good things about it.

I'll definitely back you up on that. I have over 20 seagate drives (scsi, ide and sata), and none of them have failed. Up to five years old. (still have an 8 year one in the closet, would? have been working if I hadn't taken it apart to see what a HD looks inside :p). I also have three dead IBM Deathstars in the closet. Those things were freaking expensive back then, and they messed up within a month. Had a few WD's, no problem besides the noise, but sold those pretty quickly. Never liked Maxtor, I used to help out in a pc hardware shop and the failure rates were amazing, even new one

An interface upgrade to 3Gbit/s (they are not even sure whether to advertise 300MB/s of 3Gbit/s which is quite the difference, because there is no damn standard), sounds and IS useless. It's just commercial bla bla to make you buy their stuff. It does not improve upon the performance of a drive at all. I'd rather have a "SATA II" (whatever that means) drive with NCQ and staggered spinup than a 'SATA II' drive with 3Gbit/s. At least those things come in handy where as the upgraded interface doesn't do a thing. www.storagereview.com has the only decent reviews I've seen. Check it out ! Hit

What do you mean ? Those have been available forever. No such thing as SATA II, it's not even a standard, it's bullshit. Just look for a drive with staggered spinup and NCQ, the 3Gbit/s doesn't really do anything as no drive is even gonna break that 1.5Gbit/s barrier for years and years to come.

There is an interesting blog on this topic at Sysinternals...

As you know, RAID5 is not an alternative for a backup ;-) It just offers some redundancy. And yes, pci-x, pci 64/66, pci 64/33 and pci 66/33 cards are ususally backwards compatible with pci 33/33 slots so that should be ok. I have two nforce2 boards with adaptec 64/66 scsi cards in them, and the work just fine. I was using a Yeong Yang 0221B black cube before, but since that only houses 8 disks, I switched to a Lian Li PC-V2100, which is VERY roomy :) Here are the full specs: - Lian Li PC-V2100 servercase - Antec 550W EPS12V ATX PSU 24 pins - Intel SDS2 motherboard - 2x Intel Pe

I recently added another 2 300GB drives to the array. Online capacity expansion works like a charm and Acronis soft to resize the partition. Now got a total of 1.9TB :) I messed around a bit with the NCQ on the controller. Appartently the implementation of NCQ in the LSI board is a bit messed up. It slashed performance by roughly 2/3rds. Also added an LSI Megaraid 320-2 for two Seagate 15k.3 cheetah's to boot from in RAID1. Long live my oldie dual P3! Now to find some tualatin 1.4's...? ;D

Must say the thing runs without a hitch at 2.2Ghz, no voltage bumps or nothing. But as it is in my HTPC it just runs stock, very cool and quiet :)

Long live for 65mpg TDI's overhere, although even diesel prices are getting crazy around here. Actual gas prices are approaching the 6? per gallon mark. Pretty crazy all over the damn world it seems... Go bike I'd say :) That's what I do !
