goodspeed 10
So my main "Net PC" (XPS M1710) had a catastrophic HDD failure and I lost the OS. I was able to salvage the files from it though so it wasn't a total loss. I have a new HDD and Linux Mint 7 KDE running as I type this (I'm on it now). I was wondering if any of you guys had an opinion as to which OS I should load on here permanently (or even temporarily, for now). Let me hear it.

goldenfrog 10
Back on track. I'm running Win7 RC on my main comp and I like it. A few changes that take some getting use to but nothing major.

goodspeed 10
ya want me to mail ya my Win7 RC DVD? Got a copy, thanks. I loaded Steam and have been playing some Half Life and Left 4 Dead on this Mint 7 install and have to say, I am impressed thus far. Prolly keep this on for a week or so and then load win 7 on here and try that out. What other suggestions you guys got?
acadamis2000 10
Well, being a Microsoft guy and having strong influence with my job. I would have to say Windows 7 RC, it's good stuff.
Throktar 10
If you have any brain cells left in that hunk of skull meat... Windows 7 is the ONLY choice you have.

Winky 10
Yes the Koolaid indeed, the release of millions of copies of Win7 has been a great marketing ploy by Mickey soft. Win7 is the place to be, when is the durn thang gonna go gold? I think this is the first OS I'd wanna pay for since Win95! I wonder if I should download it again? This is a newer version than the one I got the night it first became available, Right?

goldenfrog 10
The only problem I have noticed with Win7 is the Nvidia driver. The desktop is blurry with my 8800GS. I don't have the same trouble with my ATI card.
Godcopp 10
And I couldn't get my ATIs to work in x-fire in W7, I had to dump it. Maybe fixed now, that was the initial release.

goodspeed 10
I have to say, the more I play with this latest release of Linux Mint 7, the more I like it. It had ALL of the drivers for my laptop right out of the gate, even wireless. I was/am impressed. I will probably run it for the rest of the week or so and then try out Win 7 and do a direct comparison. For now though, everything "works" and that's a good thing. I'm even playing quite a few of my Windows games with WINE and have not had a problem yet. They even look good and play smoothly to boot.
pbcustom98 10
for gaming id say vista 64. under linux i could never get the games running right in wine. (ubuntu 8.10, 9.04 --> prolly just me) for everything else, id say linux. depending on how comfy you are with it. pitty too.
